PVC vs Embroidered Patches

Molded rubber or stitched thread? Where each one performs best — outdoors, on gear and on apparel.

PVC vs Embroidered Patches

PVC and embroidered patches solve different problems. One is molded rubber, the other is stitched thread.

Construction

PVC patches are made by filling a custom mold with soft PVC, color by color. Embroidered patches are stitched with thread on a twill base.

Weather and water

PVC is waterproof and easy to wipe clean, which is why it's popular for outdoor gear, tactical equipment and bags. Embroidery is washable, but thread absorbs water and can fade over long sun exposure.

Look and feel

PVC gives bold, solid colors and crisp edges, in flat 2D layers or sculpted 3D detail. Embroidery gives classic texture and a traditional look.

Minimums

PVC needs a custom mold, so it usually makes sense from larger quantities. Embroidery is practical for smaller runs. Your quote will confirm what works for your project.

Which should you choose?

- Outdoor, wet or rugged use → PVC - Hats, jackets, uniforms with a classic look → Embroidered - Bold graphic logo with few colors → either; PVC for durability, embroidery for texture
